Manufacturing Engineer
We are currently seeking a well seasoned technical professional responsible for creating, developing, documenting, implementing and communicating procedures required to set-up, machine, assemble, inspect, test, process, and manufacture products which meet or exceed all design and quality criteria. Interacts with peers in manufacturing, assembly, design and quality engineering to establish and maintain processes which assure efficient and cost effective flow of production. Conducts PFMEA analysis and develops processes intended to eliminate potential deficiencies. Analyzes statistical data and plans manpower requirements, equipment utilization equipment, space requirements, material and workflow, and designs layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum worker safety and efficiency. Evaluates and improves manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design and lean philosophies, materials and parts, fabrication and assembly processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, production methods, and quality assurance standards. Represents the company and its stakeholders, including owners and employees, in a manner consistent with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and ethics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, evaluates, improves and documents internal and external manufacturing processes to assure high quality of first part and subsequent process throughput.
- Utilizes and practices the principles contained in APQP (Advanced Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis), Failure Mode Effects Analysis(FMEA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) guidance contained in ISO/TS16949 System.
- Develops and implements process control techniques and procedures consistent with accepted manufacturing practice.
- Continually analyzes manufacturing process flows and implements documented changes which support continuous improvement in the areas of cost, throughput and quality.
- Estimates production times, equipment requirements, relative costs, and staffing requirements in order to provide standard cost data to operations.
- Works closely with manufacturing and human resource departments to develop, coordinate, and implement technical process training for employees.
- Designs and develops manufacturing processes for implementing enhancements, product changes, and new products, and related fixtures and tooling that is consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.
- Creates and maintains accurate documentation of tooling and fixturing drawings and concepts in conjunction with the design engineering and quality assurance functions.
- Provides engineering assistance and support to production department to trouble shoot, identify and resolve technical processing issues.
- Coordinates work with tool room personnel, assigned technicians, and outside vendors.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct reports at this time. But, provides guidance, leadership and direction on manufacturing matters to peers, direct reports and others involved with product development, quality assurance, planning, finance and sales and marketing functions as required.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering. Education will be combined with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in a low to medium volume production manufacturing environment where machining and assembly of precision components is involved.
Other Desirable Skills / Attributes
- Prior direct / hands-on experience with milling, turning, grinding, honing, broaching and assembly of electro-mechanical devices is essential.
- 2D and 3D CAD experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including machine programming via direct and post processor methodologies is a required.
- Thorough working familiarity and understanding of the principles of GD&T for part tolerancing and in the design and building of jigs, fixtures, gauging and tooling and in the programming of NC and CNC machines is mandatory.
- Above average technical writing and communication skills, including presentation skills to technical and non-technical personnel, are essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite 2007 / 2010 including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus a working knowledge of business database software such as BPCS or equivalent.
- Consistently demonstrates solid work ethic and commitment to personal and professional growth as an engineering professional.
- Must be a good listener, analytical thinker and have the ability to effectively communicate and deal with people at all levels of the Company.
Travel Requirements
The potential for occasional domestic / international travel, as may be or may become required, is understood to be an integral requirement of this assignment.
